Game 2 vs. University

(Ranked #3)

Segerstrom Football was on the road again to take on the University Trojans.  The game started with our D forcing a three and out. Great start for our Defense.  The offense finally got going with a 64 yard burst by Joseph Gomez to open up the scoring.  As the D kept dominating the Trojans our "O" puts up two more touchdowns by Sonny Roa and Raymond Avalos on qb sneak to give us the lead at halftime 18-0.

The 3rd quarter started and Uni scores a td and a two point conversion to cut the lead to 18-8.  The offense struggled to move the ball in the second half. Momentum seemed to shift to Uni as they moved the ball consistently.  Then came the play of the game when Justin Young gets an interception and returns it for a good gain.  Soon after Sonny Roa scored on a 21 yard run as he tip toed the sideline. Our runningbacks had good games, Perkins rushed for 102 yards and Gomez for 96. The Defense played big all night and held the Trojans in key situations. Next week will be the first home game vs. Notre Dame of Canada. Have to protect our House...Jag Football....HISTORY

JV vs. University (W 21-0)

In a hard fought battle between the host Segerstrom Jaguars and visiting University Trojans, the defenses for both teams stepped up to the challenge. With both teams specializing in the wing-t offense, the defenses came ready to play. Segerstrom was led by its line-backing core consisting of: Alex Garcia, Mateo Lopez, Maury Soberanis, and Daniel Gonzalez. Together they combined with the rest of the Segerstrom defense to shut out the University offense.

After overcoming some critical mistakes, the Jaguar offense got after it, putting up three touchdowns. Tyler Tafoya connected with Chris Nieto on a deep corner, which put the Jaguars up 14 points. In closing minutes of the fourth quarter, Nik Kloumis took the handoff, cut off his trap block, and raced down the sideline for a touchdown. This put the game away as the Jaguars defended their home field, beating the Trojans, 21-0.

Freshmen: University
IWeek 1: University In week 2, the Jaguars traveled south to take on the Trojans of University High School. The defense was strong once again and stopped the Trojans on their first drive forcing a punt. The Offense then took the ball and drove 60 yards for their first touch down. With the fail 2 points attempt, the Jaguars lead 6-0 early. From this point, the Jaguars offense and defense would continue to dominate. However, costly execution mistakes on offensive side would prevent the Jaguars from scoring. University would tie up the game, in the second quarter, with a 60 yards TD pass. So it was 6-6 at half time. In the second half, the defense continues to be strong, only giving up 1 play of over 5 yards. However, the offense continues to struggle. In the fourth quarter, the Jaguars would put together a drive that would end up with a TD pass from quarterback Abraham Guerrero to running back Zamani Nunez. With the 2 point conversion good, the Jaguars led 14-6. On the next possession, the Trojans would drive to the JaguarÕs 3 yard line and with only 20 seconds to play. The Trojans first try to tie the game was stopped by the defence with no gain. On their second play, an illegal procedure penalty pushed the line of scrimmage back to the 13th yard line. Now, there was only 2 seconds left on the game clock. The Trojans last attempt was a pass that was broken up by defence to preserved the victory. With this win, the Jaguars are 2-0 and will be hosting Whittier High School in week 3.
