Segerstrom Football opened our 2012 season looking to make HISTORY. First on the list of opponents were the Savanna Rebels at Glover stadium.  Segerstrom’s first snaps of the season were on Defense and forced a turnover on the rebels 10 yd line.  Two plays later Segerstrom scored on a TD run of 6 yards by Sonny Roa.  Soon after the scoring flood gates opened for the offense as the next two touchdowns were runs of 55 yards by Roa.  David Perkins also got in the mix by scoring a pair of touchdowns. The Segerstrom " D" was impressive as they held the rebels to one first down.  Vaughn Lawson, Kiona Drayton, Josh Linares and Gil Meza all played a big part as they where in the back field all game.  Segerstrom’s offensive attack was impressive as they rushed for over 400 yards. JV vs. Savanna (W 29-7)

In the Jaguar’s Junior Varsity’s season opener, the fans piled into Jaguar Stadium to witness a decisive victory for the Segerstrom Jaguars over the visiting Savanna Rebels. As a result of a punishing defense, the Jaguars were recipients of several Rebel turnovers. These turnovers provided the Segerstrom offense with prime field position throughout the game. Great individual efforts were turned in by Gavin Juan at free safety who had two interceptions and the Jaguar’s defensive ends Kenari Drayton and Chris Nieto who put pressure on the Rebels’ option quarterback.

Offensively, the Jaguars stuck to its ground attack pounding the ball for all four quarters. The opening drive saw the Jaguars methodically move the ball down the field into the end zone. Still the Rebels never let down forcing several fourth down attempts. The most memorable fourth down attempt came on a Tyler Tafoya to Joseph Sanchez touchdown pass that gave the Jaguars a two-touchdown lead. With this 14-point cushion, the Segerstrom Jaguar’s never looked back, going on to win 29-7.

Freshmen: vs. Savanna
Week 0: Savanna The freshmen football team opens the 2012 season with a thrashing of the Savanna Rebels 40-0 behind great offensive line blocking and running attack that produces 5 touchdowns. On the opening kickoff, the Jaguars recovered a fumble that set them up at the Rebels 45 yards line. Six plays later Able Diaz capped off the drive with a 2yd TD run, giving the Jaguars their first score of the season. With the go 2 point conversion, the Jaguars lead 8-0. The Jaguars would add four more touchdowns, two by running back George Ortega and two more, in the second half, by running back Chris Ferman. Not to be left out, the defense also got into the scoring frenzy with a fumble recovery, which was then returned for a touchdown. The defense played an almost perfect game, giving the Rebels only 3 first down for the whole game and keeping them from ever crossing the 50 yard line. Outstanding plays on defense were made by everyone, especially middle linebacker Gabriel Lopez, Rodolfo Mendoza (6 sacks), and Steven Martinez, with an interception. With the win, the Jaguars are 1-0, 0-0 in league and will be facing a challenge in next weekÕs game against the Trojan of University High School.
