Segerstrom vs. Anaheim (W 44-32)

Getting back to business as usual, the Jaguars traveled to Anaheim High School Thursday afternoon and defeated the Colonists 44-32. After the Jaguars pinned the Colonists deep inside their 20 after the opening kickoff, the Segerstrom defense used a physical approach to shut down Anaheim’s offense. Mateo Lopez and Maury Soberanis led the line-backing core that anchored the Jaguars. Kevin Cruz and Julian Mendoza controlled the line of scrimmage forcing three and outs the entire first half. Jorge Cantoran and Danny Gonzalez provided the outside run support to making it difficult for the Colonists to move the ball. The lone first down of the first half came on an illegal forward pass that put Anaheim on the score board.

Offensively, the Jaguars were led by B.D. aka Brian Diaz who took the pressure off the new starting quarterback Joseph Moran. Brian Diaz rushed for over 200 yards and finished with over 300 all purpose yards, receiving and returning kicks. Ivan Brooks got going too, with a long 65 yard run that sealed the victory for the Jaguars. In his first game as starting quarterback, Joseph Moran completed 5 consecutive passes and finished the game rushing the ball for a score. The Jaguars return back to league play next week when they play the Westminster Lions for the league championship.

Week 9: For week 9, the Jaguars travelled to Santa Ana High School to take on the Saints on their new artificial field. The Jaguars defense would show first, stopping the Saints on their first drive and forcing the Saints to punt. Now, it was the offenseÕs turn to go to work. The JaguarÕs offense would take the ball and score on their first possession. Given the Jaguars and early 8-0 lead. On the SaintÕs next possession, linebacker Jesse Picon would pick off the SaintÕs quarterback and rumble 30 yards for a touchdown and just, like that, the score was 16-0. The defense continues to play well and the offense was clicking on all cylinders, putting up another two touchdowns to make the score 34-0 going into the half. After the half time intermission, the Jaguars defense and offense continues their dominance with two more score to make the score 50-0. The Saints would put together a drive and score a TD late, but the game was already decided at this point. With the victory, the Jaguars are 5-3 and 2-2 in league. The Jaguars will close their season at home against the visiting Lions of Westminster High School.
