Segerstrom vs. Loara (W 28–20)

Opening up league play on the road against the Loara Saxons proved to be a difficult task, but the Jaguars were able to rely on big plays to win 28-20. Segerstrom began the game as planned; forcing a punt on Loara’s opening drive. The Jaguar offense picked up where it left off last week running the no huddle to perfection. As Loara was forced to substitute on defense, Ivan Brooks made them pay reaching the end zone to give the Jaguars an early 7-0 lead. This is when the Jaguars were faced with adversity. Forcing a fourth down punt, a roughing the punter penalty gave Loara new life. Although the Saxons did not score, the time ran off the clock kept the Segerstrom offense on the sidelines. Once the Jaguars got the ball back, they marched down the field inside the 10 yard line, but fumbled the quarterback running back exchange. With under a minute left in the half, Loara’s quarterback connected with his wide receiver to even the score at 7-7.
The second half started as the first one ended, with more mistakes. Loara lined up for the kickoff and executed an onside kick recovering the ball at the Jaguars’ 45 yard line. On fourth and one, the Saxons ran a quarterback sneak to pick up the first down. The Jaguar defense converged on the ball as it appeared the play was over. Loara’s quarterback quickly realized the whistle was not blown, even as his progress was stopped, and raced into the end zone to give the Saxons a 14-7 lead. Segerstrom responded with a drive ending at the Loara two yard-line.
With the Jaguars down, Kenari Drayton gave Segerstrom the spark that they needed. After another Saxon touchdown, Drayton blocked the extra point. The Jaguars rode this wave of momentum the rest of the game. Drayton also intercepted a deflected pass by Kevin Cruz to get the Jaguars going. Joseph Sanchez got into the game and punished Loara tacklers. On a crucial 4th down and 12, Sanchez took the hand-off and raced 20 yards for a touchdown to put the game out of reach. Key defensive plays were made by Edgar Paredes who had two interceptions and Gavin Juan who added another on the final play of the game. Mateo Lopez and Maury Soberanis brought pressure all game shutting down the Saxon running attack. The Jaguars have a buy next week, but will focus on continuing to get better to make a run a league championship.
Week 6: Loara For week 6, the Jaguar Freshmen football team took the field against the visiting Loara Saxon with heavy hearts at the lost of one of there own, wide receiver Jose Rodriguez, whom lost his life the week before. This game was dedicated to JoseÕs memory. The Jaguars would score quickly when the opening kick off was returned to the SaxonÕs 3 yard line. One play later, the Jaguars would score and with the successful 2 point attempt, was leading 8-0 with only about 1 minute off the clock. The defense then took over, stopping the Saxons on every possession, except one, during the second quarter, in which the Saxons got their only score of the game . Going into the half, the Jaguars were up 14-6. In the second half, the JaguarÕs defense shut down the SaxonÕs offense and the JaguarÕs offense would add one more score to make the final score of 22-6. With this win, the Jaguars are 5-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.Next week, the Jaguars will be on the road to face the Seahawks of Ocean View High School.
