Joe Martinez (Varsity)

Coach Joe Martinez is entering his ninth season with the Jaguars. This year, Coach Martinez will assist with the middle linebackers on the Varsity level. His mission is to develop student athletes into disciplined, accountable young men prepared for success beyond football, emphasizing the life lessons of teamwork, perseverance, and hard work. “Don’t settle, find a way to keep going”


Coach Martinez is proud to coach alongside his son, Coach Erik Martinez and looks forward to watching his son, QB1 Noah Martinez lead the Jaguars. He extends his deepest thanks to his wife, Maritza, for her continued love and support throughout his coaching journey.

Erik Martinez (Varsity)

Coach Erik Martinez is returning for his second season as the safeties coach. He is a proud Segerstrom alum and member of the Class of 2022. As a member of the football program, he earned First Team All-League honors, as well as All-CIF honors. He was also part of Segerstrom’s 2021 Big 4 League Championship.


Outside of coaching, he is currently studying engineering at Cal Poly Pomona. From his experiences as a student and athlete, he has learned the discipline, resilience, and determination it takes to succeed both on and off the field.


As a coach, he brings the knowledge he has gained as well as the patience and commitment to help develop the next generation of student-athletes. His goal is to give back to the program that helped shape him by sharing not only the technicalities of the game, but also the confidence to pursue greater things. Coach Erik believes in utilizing football to build strong and successful individuals.

Fernando Cervantes (Varsity)

Coach Fernando Cervantes enters his third year on the Jaguar coaching staff as the Defense Back coach, looking to take our defense backs to the next level.  

Coach Cervantes began his football journey as a player at Saddleback High School, alongside Head Coach Joseph Tagaloa, where he played Tight End and Defensive End.  He then continued his playing and education at Santa Ana College, where he played wide receiver for two years.  

Coach Cervantes is married to Jennifer and has two sons.  His oldest son, Nicholas, is a Wide Receiver at Orange Coast College.  His youngest son, Adrian, plays Running Back and Cornerback on the Segerstrom Varsity team.  

Coach Cervantes looks forward to another successful season with the Jaguars. 

Jalen Cervantes (Varsity)

Coach Jalen (Jay) Cervantes is entering his first season as a varsity coach. He is an alumni who is excited to start his coaching career as a Quarterback and Defensive end coach.


Joseph Tagaloa (Varsity)

Coach Joseph Tagaloa returns for his 11th year as the Jaguars Varsity Head Coach overseeing one of the best coaching staffs and programs in the city.  As the Offensive Coordinator, Coach Tagaloa will be calling the offense for the Jaguars for the 2026 season. Originally Coach Tagaloa started out as the running backs coach on the Varsity staff working with both the Freshman and JV teams. He has been a part of the Jaguar Football program for the last 20 years.  Coach Tagaloa has recently been named the Co-Athletic Director and will help oversee all the amazing sports programs at Segerstrom High School. In the classroom, Coach Tagaloa is also a part of the Social Science Department where he teaches U.S. History, Psychology, and Sociology. 


Prior to joining the Segerstrom staff, Coach Tagaloa first got his coaching career started at Santa Ana High School and then later at Garden Grove High School where he was an assistant on the Varsity Level responsible for Running Backs and Linebackers from 2002 - 2005.  As a player, coach Tagaloa played high school ball at Saddleback High School where he played Running Back, Defensive Back, and Returned kicks graduating in 1998.  He continued his playing career at Santa Ana College earning honors as a return specialist, which opened up the opportunity to play at the University of San Diego.  At the University of San Diego Coach Tagaloa was able to play football and earned his Bachelors of Arts in History.  After graduation he returned home and earned his Teaching Credential and Masters in Education from Concordia University in Irvine.


Coach Tagaloa is blessed with the wonderful support of his amazing wife Vanessa Tagaloa and their three children Nathan, Noah, and Nalani. Nathan is an alumni of Segerstrom High School and is returning to coach alongside his dad. Noah is also a Segerstrom alumni who is attending Chapman University and playing football. Nalani will be entering 11th grade at Segerstrom High School and is on the sideline as a member of the Varsity cheer squad.This is truly a family affair.


Coach Daniel (Yhats) Sanchez (Varsity) Updated

Coach Sanchez is entering his 13th year with the Segerstrom Football program, having begun his coaching career in the summer of 2014 shortly after graduating from Segerstrom High School. He spent two years coaching at the freshman level before moving to the JV and Varsity ranks, where he has served for the past eleven seasons. Throughout his coaching career, Coach Sanchez has helped lead the Jaguars to four league championships, including the team’s most recent league title last season, and remains committed to building a competitive and successful program.

A proud member of Segerstrom’s Class of 2014, Coach Sanchez was a versatile player who contributed as an offensive guard, defensive tackle, defensive end, and linebacker. During his playing career, he helped the Jaguars capture two Golden West League titles and earn two CIF playoff appearances.

Coach Sanchez currently serves as the team’s Co-Defensive Coordinator and is entering his fifth year coaching the offensive and defensive lines. He also previously served as the team’s Special Teams Coordinator for one season. He is passionate about developing fundamentally sound, disciplined athletes and takes pride in mentoring young men both on and off the field. His coaching philosophy emphasizes toughness, accountability, effort, and team-first leadership.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Coach Sanchez serves the Segerstrom community as the school’s Stage Manager, overseeing technical operations for theater productions, assemblies, and campus events throughout the year.

Frank Stephens (Varsity/JV)

Coach Stephens returns to the Segerstrom Football staff as the Head JV Coach and the TE coach on the Varsity staff. He brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience as both a player and as a coach. Stephens played at UCLA for Dick Vermeil with his biggest memory being playing in the Rose Bowl. He had an exceptional career earning All Conference honors and moving on to play professionally with the Seattle Seahawks and the Toronto Arganauts. His coaching resume is just as impressive as he has coached in college ranks as well as some of the top high schools in Orange County. Now as Coach Stephens is back on the Jaguars staff, he is excited to help these young men grow as student athletes so that they may continue to accomplish their goals.

Nathan Tagaloa (Varsity/JV)

Coach Nathan Tagaloa is a proud alumnus of Segerstrom High School, where he played football and built the foundation of his passion for the game. He recently graduated in Spring 2025 from the University of La Verne with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, where he also competed as a collegiate linebacker.

Now back at his alma mater, Coach Tagaloa serves as the Junior Varsity Offensive Coordinator and works with both linebackers and running backs across all levels. His firsthand experience as a former player in the program and as a college athlete brings leadership, technical insight, and high-level football knowledge to the coaching staff.

Coach Tagaloa returned to give back to the program that shaped him, aiming to help the next generation of players grow on and off the field. He’s passionate about developing young athletes through hard work, discipline, and a strong team culture.

Jacob Franco (Varsity/JV)

Coach Franco enters his second season with the Segerstrom football program, bringing over 13 years of experience, dedication, and love for the game. A graduate of La Mirada High School, he helped lead the Matadores to three CIF playoff appearances and earned 1st Team All-League honors his senior year. His hard work on and off the field earned him academic and athletic scholarships to the University of La Verne, where he continued his football career at the collegiate level.

Now stepping into high school coaching, Coach Franco is fully committed to making an impact. He brings a tireless work ethic, a student-first mindset, and a deep understanding of the game. This will be his second season as the Junior Varsity Defensive Coordinator. His focus this season at the Varsity level is on developing the safeties defensively as well as leading the special teams unit with an emphasis on discipline, technique, and accountability.

Coach Franco is passionate about mentoring student-athletes and is dedicated to helping them grow both on and off the field. He views this opportunity as more than just a coaching position; it's a chance to give back to the game that shaped him. He’s all in and ready to contribute everything he has to the success of Segerstrom Football. 



Cristian Carmona:(Varsity/JV)

Coach Cristian Carmona returns for his second year on the coaching staff, bringing energy and experience to both the offensive and defensive lines. Cristian began his coaching journey as a college intern with the program, where his passion for the game and dedication to player development quickly stood out.

A former standout athlete himself, Cristian is a 2-time All-CIF honoree, recognized for his performance, toughness, and leadership on the field. He now channels that same competitive spirit into coaching, with a focus on refining linemen's technique, footwork, and football IQ.

Cristian is committed to helping each player reach their potential, emphasizing discipline, fundamentals, and teamwork in every drill and game situation.

Jesus Franco (Varsity/Freshman)

Coach Franco is entering his second year at Segerstrom High School, where he serves as the Offensive and Defensive Line Coach. His football journey began at Century High School, where he played as an offensive guard and defensive tackle. Drawing from his experience both on the field and on the sidelines, Coach Franco is passionate about developing student-athletes into strong competitors and outstanding young adults. 

His coaching philosophy centers on discipline, teamwork, accountability, and hard work, fostering an environment where athletes can grow both athletically and personally. In addition to his work at Segerstrom, Coach Franco has dedicated more than 20 years to Santa Ana Pop Warner, helping prepare countless young athletes for success at the high school level and beyond. 

  

Outside of football, Coach Franco is a devoted husband and father. He and his wife, Judy, are proud parents of two children. His daughter, Danika, is continuing her education at Orange Coast College, while his son, Ethan, is a member of Segerstrom’s Varsity Football Team, where he serves as the starting center. 

 Coach Franco is excited for another successful season and looks forward to helping his athletes reach their full potential, both on and off the field. 

Michael Altamirano (Freshman)

Coach Mike Altamirano enters his fourth stretch of coaching Freshman football at Segerstrom High School, having previously coached during the 2010-2012 seasons. Coach Altamirano was born and raised in Santa Ana where he attended Santiago Elementary School, Willard Intermediate and Santa Ana High School. On the Freshman staff he is responsible for coaching the defensive backs and wide receivers. 


Coach Altamirano currently teaches US History and AVID at Segerstrom. He has been a teacher at Segerstrom since the 2006-2007 school year after teaching and coaching at Santa Ana High School for six years. Along with teaching and coaching, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and attending his kids sporting events.  

Lan Vu (Freshman)

Coach Vu has been part of the Segerstrom coaching staff since 2006 as the Freshmen Head Coach. Coach Vu is also the Head Boys and Girls Track and Field coach and teaches AP, Honors, and CP Chemistry. Coach Vu grew up in Fountain Valley and played offensive line at Fountain Valley High School. He received his bachelor's in Biochemistry from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and his Master's of Education from Pepperdine University. He is married to his wife of 27 years, Carolyn, and together they have two adult children, son Taylor, and daughter Megan. When he is not teaching or coaching, his hobbies include playing video games, traveling, camping, exploring new places, and spending time with his family. His favorite things about the Jaguar football program include the coaching staff, being able to coach, and being a part of young men’s lives.

Micah Williams (Varsity/JV)

Coach Micah Williams enters his first season with the Segerstrom football program, bringing a passion for the game, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to helping young athletes succeed. A graduate of Smoky Hill High School, Coach Williams developed his love for football through years of competition and dedication. His hard work earned him the opportunity to continue his football career at the University of La Verne, where he competed at the collegiate level and further developed his knowledge of the game.

Now beginning his coaching career, Coach Williams is excited to give back to the sport that has had such a positive impact on his life. He believes in leading by example and emphasizes discipline, accountability, and consistent effort in everything he does. His goal is to help players grow not only as football players but also as young men who are prepared for success beyond the field.

Coach Williams will serve as the Junior Varsity Wide Receivers Coach, where he is focused on developing fundamentally sound athletes through attention to detail, technique, and a team-first mentality. He is excited to be a part of the Segerstrom football family and looks forward to building meaningful relationships with his players while helping contribute to the continued success of the program.

Isaac Bui (Freshman)

Coach Bui is a proud alumnus of Segerstrom High School, where he discovered his passion for football and exercise under the guidance of the program's experienced coaching staff. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton, building a strong foundation in exercise science and athletic performance.

Following graduation, Coach Bui returned to his alma mater to give back to the program that helped shape his journey. As the Freshman running backs and linebackers coach, he applies his knowledge of kinesiology and player development to help young athletes build sound fundamentals, improve their performance, and grow both on and off the field.

Robbie Tagaloa (Varsity)

Coach Robbie Tagaloa is a dedicated football coach with 13 years of coaching experience at the high school level. He is currently in his first year at Segerstrom where he is serving as Co-Defensive Coordinator. Coach Tagaloa is committed to developing student athletes both on and off the field.

Before joining the Segerstrom staff, Coach Tagaloa coached at El Modena, Canyon and Fairmont Prep where he guided those teams to multiple CIF appearances. Coach Tagaloa graduated and played football at El Modena High School. He played WR/DB and still holds the record for most interceptions in a season. His passion for the game and leadership skills have earned the respect of players, parents, and fellow coaches. 

Outside of football, Coach Tagaloa enjoys playing golf, listening to music, and spending time with his family. Coach Tagaloa is married to his wife Lizzy and they have three boys Kaiden, Kaleb, and Kyler with our fur baby named Bruno. Coach Tagaloa is looking forward to the upcoming season and is excited to be part of the Jaguar family!
